Criminal cases have decreased during the lockdown in Nepal

According to the home ministry on June 12, 2020, crime has decreased in Nepal during the lockdown. Nepal police said criminal incidents had decreased by nearly 60 percent due to the lockdown. 

But crimes like murder, incidents of domestic violence, and sexual assault have still taken place during the lockdown period, according to Nepal police.

Comparatively, the incidents of crime have reduced this year in Nepal. The suicide rate in Nepal has significantly decreased, which is 14% less than in the past. 

As per the data made available unto may, incidents of suicide has decreased by 328 in the last three months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

3,532 incidents of social crime were reported in the last three months of the previous fiscal year, whereas as of May, 923 such incidents have been reported in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year, according to the data presented by the ministry. 

221 incidents of theft and burglary have taken place in the last three months (Chait, Baisakh and Jestha) of the current fiscal year. 711 incidents of theft and burglary were reported in the corresponding period last fiscal year.

1319 incidents of organized and financial crimes were reported in the last three months of the last fiscal year whereas only 503 incidents of this type of crime have been reported in the last three months of the current fiscal year.

1218 incidents of crime against women and children had been reported in the last three months (Chait, Baisakh and Jestha) of the last fiscal year whereas only 600 such incidents have been reported in the corresponding period this fiscal year.
